The Hermitage

The Hermitage is a striking presence on campus. Its contemporary design provides a perfect balance between the established heritage of the College and its promise to deliver avant garde arts and technolgy education.

The new building incorporates contemporary art studios, film and darkroom facilities as well as areas for textiles and fabrics, materials technology. ceramics and visual communications. There is a senior art studio where students' work is exhibited, and the new school canteen is housed in the building.

An unusual architectural feature is the 'learning street' or main corridor which features a bio-filter living wall to help foster environmental awareness. As part of our commitment to the environment and to reducing energy consumption, the building includes an innovative method for heating and cooling.

The building is named after The Hermitage in France, built in 1824 by the founder of the Marist Brothers, St Marcellin Champagnat, and the early brothers as their home.
