Pastoral Care

Family Spirit is a hallmark of Assumption College. It is born out in the willingness of our young people to help one another. We see it when our parents come to the school to assist on Fete Day or Open Day. When our teachers stay back after hours to help with individuals or groups, or to coach a sporting team - these are all demonstrations of the unique Family Spirit at Assumption College which underpins Pastoral Care at the College.

In general terms, the Pastoral Care structure is based around a student's Homeroom. Each young person belongs to a Homeroom, where friendships can be consolidated each day and where two staff members see to the academic, social and general progress of each student in their care. These two staff members are the first point of contact for parents in dealing with any matter relating to their child. The Homeroom teachers are then supported by a Level Co-ordinator who will work with them in order to get to know each young person in a particular year level. In this structure a sense of belonging is fostered, and our young people are encouraged to nominate to positions of leadership and service within their year level or in the wider school community.

The College also provides a School Counsellor and a trained School Psychologist for times when students and/or their families are in need of special support.
