Assessments
The central role of assessment in teaching and learning is to provide students with opportunities to practise and demonstrate proficiency in the skills, understandings and knowledge addressed in curriculum.
At all year levels, students engage in assessment for a variety of purposes:
Assessment as learning: Students reflect on their own work and utilise feedback from teachers to set goals, determine areas of strength and identify areas in which they require additional support or practice.
Assessment for learning: Teachers utilise a range of tasks – in class and homework tasks, as well as key assessment tasks – to gauge individual student progress and use this information to inform their teaching.
Assessment of learning: Generally occurring at the end of a unit of work, teachers assess student work against state and national goals and standards in order to make judgements about student learning.
To assist students in being fully prepared to complete key assessment tasks, assessment calendars have been produced for students at each year level to enable them to plan ahead, complete regular revision and ensure they utilise their time to achieve punctual submission of all major assessment tasks. In addition, with multiple assessments taking place at ‘peak times’ throughout the semester, these assessment calendars aim to assist students in managing these times by beginning tasks promptly and allowing forward planning.
The assessment calendars include major assessment items, which will be included on student reports at the end of the relevant semester. In addition to these major tasks, students also complete a range of homework and reading tasks that help to reinforce the skills, knowledge and understandings required by the major assessment tasks.
VCE Unit 3&4 Students – Special provisions for rescheduling
Individual students who have three or more SACs (School Assessed Coursework) scheduled on a given day will have the opportunity to reschedule one of the SACs in order to alleviate the impost of multiple assessments on the one day and better enable them to achieve best possible results.
In order to reschedule a SAC, the student would have to adhere to the following conditions:
