The Associated Grammar Schools of Victoria, A Sporting and Social History

By Dennis Carroll

A group of eight schools, the oldest of which had been founded in 1871, adopted the title “Associated Grammar Schools of Victoria” in October 1920.

Assumption College joined in 1958 competing for their first AGSV premiership, although they came 4th in the competition they came back in 1959 and won the Football Premiership, they did not lose a match. Assumption is still a part of the AGSV competing strongly winning the AGSV Premiership in 2009.

The new book, commissioned by the current nine schools, covers the history of the AGSV sporting contests, as well as providing a concise social history of the times and numerous feature stories about outstanding individuals who attended AGSV schools. Assumption College receives extensive coverage in the book.

At $45 per copy, the history (hardback, case bound, large format) is 324 pages in length and features more than 1,000 photographs (accompanied by in excess of 7,000 names).
